2010 is the year that South Africa gets showcased on the international arena like never before and will, no doubt, be the focus of much scrutiny both at home and abroad. Whilst tourists coming to watch the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup will be more focussed on the soccer, weather and the scenery, South Africans are keen to see some tangible benefits from hosting the ‘greatest show on earth’.

JOHANNESBURG – Nicole Ndoumbe-Myers has been appointed Head of Ipsos-ASI for Ipsos South Africa and the sub-Saharan region.

Since the general election in April 2009, where the ANC failed to achieve a two-thirds majority, the party has succeeded in consolidating and building its support – support for the ANC currently stands at 71% of eligible voters, i.e. those South Africans who are 18 or older.


Views on 2010 - The Year Ahead

Currently two-thirds of adult South Africans (66%) believe that the 2010 FIFA Soccer World
Cup is going to be a success and just below six in every ten (56%) think that, in general, the
country is heading in the right direction. A third (35%) agrees that their families are better off
than a year ago. Looking ahead, almost half (46%) say that, in a year’s time, they will be better
off than today.


COPE - ONE YEAR ON!

Core support for COPE (Congress of the People) has slumped since the national election in April 2009 and currently stands at 2,2%. However, potential still exists and a further one in every ten eligible voters (8%) say that they would “perhaps vote” for this party.
