Ian Jeffrey
Ian Jeffrey has been appointed as Ipsos Markinor’s CEO from October 2009. Ian will focus on future growth and business development. He has vast experience in different sectors of the market and opinion research industry and is a proven leader with commercial acumen and thought leadership in marketing research. Jeffrey joins Ipsos from Synovate where he assumed a number of leadership roles including Client Services Director and, more recently, Group Client Services Director (sub-Saharan Africa) and Global Mystery Shopping Operations Director. He was previously at the UK-based Lodge Group for 14 years, where he headed a number of business units for the South African subsidiary, culminating in Group Managing Director. Ian set up and ran React Surveys (Lodge’s marketing research operation) in South Africa from 1993 until 2001.
Shirley Benney
Shirley Benney, Ipsos Markinor’s CEO from 1997 to 2009 has taken up the position of COO and will be engaging in a hands-on approach growing the operations side of the business. During her 25 years at Markinor, Shirley has worked her way up the ranks and managed very successful business units specialising in large tracking studies for leading financial, services, telecommunications and FMCG companies. We at Markinor and our business partners profit from Shirley’s formidable business acumen and her responsive and energetic managerial style.
Mari Harris
Mari Harris is a renowned and highly respected political analyst and is currently Ipsos Markinor’s Managing Executive: Business Development & Public Affairs. Before 1989, when Mari joined this company, she honed her socio-political research skills at the Institute for Political and Africa Studies at the University of Potchefstroom and Strategic Concepts. She holds a degree in Communication Studies and postgraduate degrees in International Politics and is a frequent speaker at international conferences and a member of various associations. This wealth of experience infuses all her projects with expert knowledge and skill.
Nicole Ndoumbe-Myers
Nicole Ndoumbe-Myers has been appointed Head of Ipsos-ASI for Ipsos South Africa and the sub-Saharan region. She relocated from the Ipsos head office in Paris and is now based at the Ipsos Markinor head office in Randburg. Nicole has a master’s degree in marketing and 17 years’ experience in market research in Europe. A true global employee, she started her career in market research in France, followed by a 5-year stint at the Ipsos London offices as the Ipsos-ASI Europe Tracking Director. Nicole describes herself as a consultant in brand equity and communication strategy. Her passion is to build strong brands and to ensure that clients achieve a return on their advertising investments, by providing them with the solutions to measure advertising effectiveness and making action-orientated recommendations to impact on their bottom line.
Anneke Greyling
Anneke Greyling is a political analyst and Client Service Director at Ipsos Markinor’s Cape Town office. Since starting in 1998 at Ipsos Markinor, she has managed a large array of projects. Anneke formerly worked as researcher, research co-ordinator and manager of research at the University of Stellenbosch’s Centre for International and Comparative Politics and in party politics. She co-authored Political Organisations in SA: from A-Z, and authored various articles and chapters in books and regularly presents papers at academic conferences.
Grant van Niekerk
Grant van Niekerk heads up Ipsos Markinor’s marketing capability, focussing on brand and innovation research for clients in the FMCG industry and Services categories. He is also responsible for the qualitative, shopper and healthcare practices. Grant rejoined the business after successfully managing insight teams at National Brands and then AVI. Grant has been in the research industry for over a decade, joining the field after starting his working life in the advertising industry. Grant developed his research skills at Research Surveys and Markinor, where he rose to Business Unit Director, before a three-year stint as Insight Manager and then Insight Director at AVI, a publically-listed FMCG conglomerate. Grant has also contributed to the SAMRA Council as Research Users’ Forum Chair. Grant is passionate about using research evidence to inform and improve marketing decisions, and about assisting his clients change their consumers’ attitudes and behaviour. He believes that research can and should change the way marketers market through reducing risk and providing insight into the marketing decision-making process. Grant has various academic accolades, completing studies in Brand Management and Marketing and Advertising Planning. Grant is most proud of his achievements in completing his MBA-coursework programme, and is currently enrolled on an MSc. in Strategic Planning.
